First thing you need to do in your 1 Oak journey may be obvious, but we need to know about you! Complete the application form above and we aim to get back to you within a day or so. Once we have your application, we will get in touch via email or call you.

Once we have had the chance to go through your application and spoken to you, we will want to meet you! Interviews are held at our office in Acton, we will meet you at the main door (its a pink door and road facing incase you struggle to find us!) You will be interviewed by two of our senior team where we will ask you questions that ascertain your values, ethics and experience. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience in care, we can teach you everything you need to know – but we can’t teach you values so that is a priority for us.

After a successful interview, we will get in touch with you by phone to verbally offer you a job, subject to referencing and DBS.
We will then email you a “Job Offer” letter and give you further details, you should respond to confirm that you are accepting the position so that we can start the following processes.
Once we had offered the position to you and you have accepted, we have to start work on the pre-employment checks. This includes applying for an enhanced DBS check and contacting two references. We only accept professional references, character references are not acceptable for care roles.
DBS checks can take some time to come back as completed, so as long as everything else is ready to go – we can get you started as soon as possible.
Things we need from you; Proof of address, Proof of Identity, Right to work evidence, Driving licence, Car Insurance, MOT and Tax – and any previous training certificates you have available. We also need to know your full employment history, we’ll need to know what any employment gaps are for.
You will be enrolled onto some eLearning courses to get you started so you are ready for the next stage
Your induction training will be booked in at our next available time slot with a trainer. You can expect training in everything from our company structure, manual handling, safeguarding, medication administration and a variety of other essential courses.
We will make sure you have plenty of breaks during your training sessions.
You will then get your kitbag and uniform ready to go shadowing!
This involves being a shadow and observing experienced carers to better understand the role of a 1 Oak Carer.
This is your time to ask as many questions as you want and observe how things are done the 1 Oak way!
The person you are shadowing will explain the routines for clients, the care planning app and any tips they have picked up along the way.
We will then liaise with the person you are shadowing for some feedback and make sure that you are ready to move on to the final stage of onboarding!
Go Live Day!
This marks the day that we deem you ready to go live on your own in the community.
We will have worked behind the scenes to make sure that everything is compliant including…
- DBS Check Completed
- Two positive references returned
- Successful Shadowing
- Completed Induction and Training

A care home assistant works in one location, supporting multiple residents throughout the day. At 1 Oak, you get one-to-one time with clients, a chance to build great relationships, a bit of fresh air between visits (bonus!) If you prefer variety, independence, and meaningful moments... domiciliary care might just be your perfect match!
Short answer: it depends on you. At 1 Oak Care, shifts are flexible: Early birds can grab morning calls, Night owls can help in the evenings... Or mix and match to suit your life! Visits can be short (30 minutes) or longer, depending on client needs. So whether you want a full-time schedule or something that works around school runs, hobbies, or life in general—there’s flexibility built in. We try our best but if we can't accommodate your flexibility then we will let you know.
Care doesn’t take weekends off—so sometimes, neither do we. Depending on the role you are looking for you may be asked to work alternate weekends (fair's fair!), Be reliable and ready to make someone’s day brighter... Ah but the upside? A quieter, often more relaxed pace and the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a difference when it matters most - and we work it so you get a cheeky midweek day off!

Short answer: it’s not always essential—but it definitely helps (a lot!). At 1 Oak Care in Sudbury, Suffolk, we support clients across a rural area, which means that many visits are spread out across villages and countryside locations, and well, public transport can be… let’s say adventurous so getting from A to B quickly makes your day much smoother (and less stressful!) However if you don't drive, still get in touch - we may have a cluster of clients in your area!
